One of the world’s most recognized brands in liquid food processing and packaging has chosen the consultancy of VEM Sistemi and Schneider Electric infrastructure for its new Data Center—the foundation of all the Group’s activities and services.
Tetra Pak is the world leader in liquid food processing and packaging, a business complemented by the provision of equipment used for processing and packaging various food products. Tetra Pak solutions are designed to maximize resource and energy efficiency, aligned with the company’s commitment to minimizing raw material consumption, both during production and distribution. In this scenario, innovation plays a key role. Not by chance, Tetra Pak invests heavily in technology and new products to offer its clients faster and more cost-effective solutions to reduce operating costs and enhance performance.
Tetra Pak combines this long-term vision with the effort to run its business in a sustainable and environmentally compatible way. Within this context lies the Data Center renewal project with Schneider Electric technologies and solutions: choosing state-of-the-art devices capable of supporting future business enables both economic savings and reduced energy consumption.
The project was carried out with the consultancy of VEM Sistemi, which designed a tailor-made solution for Tetra Pak’s innovation goals—with such successful results that Schneider Electric was confirmed as the preferred global supplier for Tetra Pak’s Data Center infrastructure worldwide.
The need to renew the Data Center stemmed from an outdated infrastructure that could no longer support or guarantee the technological and organizational changes the Group had undergone in recent years.
“The Data Center at our Modena headquarters must provide services not only to the local site but to Group companies across approximately thirty countries, spanning from Portugal to India,” explains Marco Volpi, IT Manager at Tetra Pak.
“It was essential to upgrade the core of our IT infrastructure to ensure greater efficiency and reliability.”
Additionally, the new infrastructure had to be remotely manageable, replacing physical presence with an IT system capable of monitoring vital functions and component performance within the Data Center.
In response to these prerequisites, VEM Sistemi designed a complete Schneider Electric solution, perfectly aligned with Tetra Pak’s needs. It includes InfraStruxure containment systems and is equipped with StruxureWare for Data Center, a software suite that enables remote control and monitoring of the infrastructure, improving operational efficiency.
This platform, developed by Schneider Electric, aims to transform Data Centers from cost centers into value-generating assets. With Schneider Electric solutions, companies can achieve energy efficiency goals, high reliability, data availability, and future-ready planning.
During implementation, VEM Sistemi also integrated the Data Center with high-density cabling systems and accessories, supporting Tetra Pak through all stages of migration from the old Data Center to the new one.
With this new infrastructure, Tetra Pak now benefits from a flexible system, capable of accommodating future expansion with new physical or virtual servers, in a fully redundant environment for power supply, eliminating the risk of service downtime.
“The benefits clearly align with the principles of green IT and resource optimization,” emphasizes Volpi.
“We can assess the outcome using Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) as a benchmark, which is now just over 1.5, while previously it was estimated above 2.5.”
These results align with Tetra Pak’s strong environmental awareness and sustainability values. “In terms of energy savings alone, we’ve recorded a theoretical reduction in consumption of over 30%.” This proves that designing a Data Center with innovative technologies yields returns through energy waste reduction as well.
Another key benefit is operational continuity, ensured by Schneider Electric’s Data Center solutions. “The efficiency and reliability of the new infrastructure deliver outstanding advantages,” adds Volpi. “Full component redundancy, hot-swappable hardware, and remote monitoring allow us to never interrupt Data Center operations, which is a clear gain for the business.”The project’s success is confirmed by satisfaction with Schneider Electric’s solutions and VEM Sistemi’s role.”VEM has been our supplier for years, delivering major solutions that are part of Tetra Pak’s corporate choices,” says Volpi.”VEM Sistemi helped turn corporate strategic decisions into real operational tools supporting our business.”
This positive feedback also extends to Schneider Electric’s solutions.
“Compared to other options we considered, Schneider Electric’s proposals turned out to be more efficient, reliable, and adaptable, and therefore better suited to our needs,” affirms Volpi. “Because of these characteristics, Schneider Electric has been selected as the reference provider for Tetra Pak’s Data Center infrastructure worldwide.”These positive impressions are echoed by those who work closely with the new infrastructure.”Schneider Electric provided reliable, well-structured solutions,” states Enrico Sighinolfi, Lead Analyst at Tetra Pak,
“which integrate perfectly with our server room and site. The initial impact was very positive both for those of us who work with the infrastructure daily and for the end users.”In Tetra Pak’s future, IT and Data Centers will play an increasingly crucial role.
“The project completed with VEM and Schneider Electric is part of a broader transformation process we’re pursuing,” concludes Volpi.
“We aim for a proactive, leadership-oriented approach in IT to support business growth and continuous improvement.
Our strategy includes further evolution phases focused on communication, collaboration, mobility, and smart working—areas where reliable networks and Data Centers are foundational.
We believe IT should make work simpler, more efficient, and—where possible—more enjoyable.”
