AUGMENTED SYSTEM INTEGRATION

A system integrator with potential increased by the ability to perform software integrations and to extract data from the field and transform them into useful information and thus new added value: this is the VEM Augmented System Integration paradigm.

VEM group has long since embarked on this transformation by investing in skills that increasingly fuse system concepts with scripting and software development capabilities, in a logic that increasingly leads towards DevOps approaches integrated with hardware infrastructures. Along this path, it has also invested in a company entirely dedicated to software development, MyDev, with the aim of making the system integrator’s solutions increasingly “software-defined”.

Today, the group is active in four technology strands:

V-Industry, where VEM’s role is to support manufacturing and industrial companies in general in the process of digitising the factory, designing and implementing Secure ICS (Industrial Control System) systems that create the conditions for the Industry 4.0 and Connected Factory paradigm to be practically feasible and above all secure.

Designing secure and dedicated connectivity systems for the industrial environment, creating applications that enable industrial automation operators to govern digital processes easily and effectively, are some of the goals the group designs and implements.

V-Space is a key focus area for increasing the innovative magnitude of companies. Our relationship with physical space has direct relationships with our ability to innovate and perform well.

The pandemic has revolutionised this relationship once again. Both the physical space of work and space as an environment of relationships between people, are undergoing a transformation that is now irreversible. We firmly believe that digital is an extraordinary tool for reinterpreting the role of physical spaces, be they offices, shops or bank branches or whatever, these spaces must increasingly be digital service providers for users in order to make their activities simpler, more flexible and more effective. We realise projects that disintermediate the relationship between users and the space by making users active and autonomous actors in managing comfort, connectivity tools and remote collaboration and supporting the different types of activities we face every day, also fostering collaboration between dynamic teams that aggregate and change ever more rapidly. Clearly, as always, it is not just a technological issue. It all starts with cultural and organisational models that must keep pace with the major social changes we are experiencing.

V-Hybridization. Consuming or implementing services in the cloud has become unavoidable for most organisations. The paradigm of consuming IT services in the same way as utilities (such as gas or electricity) brings significant advantages such as speed, scalability, the ability to quickly experiment with new solutions, and allows a greater focus on business and process components, leaving the infrastructure and applications to the provider or more often the technology partner.

Not everything, however, is suitable to be delivered from the cloud. Real-time processes, the ability to apply Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence close to the process for various reasons (bandwidth, time, security, etc.) lead IT systems to be increasingly hybrid. A mixture of workloads occupying a virtual space that goes from the edge to the fog to the cloud seamlessly. Thus, local data centers do not disappear but are transformed, just as the computational capacity to be provided on-premises and the interaction with the public cloud are transformed. The design and orchestration complexity of these architectures has increased significantly and VEM Group’s strategy has not changed: manage complexity to enable companies to focus on their core business.

VEM group wants to accompany and support enterprises on their journey to the public cloud, knowing full well that in most cases they will have to manage hybrid and multi-cloud situations wisely.

V-Secure is the area in which VEM Group has the most experience. None of the current digital revolutions could stand, spread and consolidate without it being accompanied by practices that make it secure. The enormous diffusion of connected devices (Internet of Things), the flexibility of work leading to increasingly widespread and less defined digital boundaries, cloud computing, and the spread of mobile connectivity have greatly increased the perimeter of exposure that can be exploited by organisations practising cybercrime in an extremely profitable and widespread business logic.

Attacks on businesses in both the advanced service sector and on the factory floor that cause devastating impacts, with critical information leaks or productivity bottlenecks, are now commonplace. The answer can only be a holistic approach that starts with design from risk analysis and ends with the identification of an attack in progress, with the objective of stopping it before it has an impact on the organisation. By combining the analysis, design and implementation capabilities of security solutions with the technology and expertise expressed by Certego, a company within the group focused on the malware detection and response component, the VEM group offers a comprehensive response to the changing needs of today’s and tomorrow’s organisations.
